Boost brain function

Enhanced brain power and co-ordination – do you need more in your workplace? Educating staff on the benefits of fish oils and healthy fats may help. But which ones are best?

Fish oils have long been touted for their many health benefits. Fish, particularly fatty ones such as salmon and tuna as well as krill, contain rich omega-3 fatty acids – eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Other sources of Omega-3s include some oils and plants such as flaxseeds. Fish oil supplements are popular these days as they are a convenient, cost-effective way to ensure the body receives adequate stores of omega-3.

Beneficial oils & fats

According to research, fish oil has many health benefits, from enhanced brain power and co-ordination to healthy blood flow and healthy blood triglyceride levels. Getting the balance of Omega 3’s and 6’s (another fatty acid) right is key. Most western diets are naturally higher in omega-6 fats (vegetable oils, meat, egg yolks, processed foods made with soybean and corn oils). Unfortunately too much Omega 6 promotes inflammation in the body, but consuming the right types of dietary fat such as nuts, avocado and olive oil can help with long term health and wellness.

Understanding healthy dietary fats is just as important. There are four main types of fats – saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and trans-fats. Do you know which is best for long-term health and wellness?
